Once you've carefully selected your badminton racquet, it's time to ask yourself another question: How do I choose the right strings for my game? The choice depends on how often you play and the feel you're looking for. Finding the right string for your racquet can be a challenge, but we're here to guide you, so you make the best choice and maximize your performance on the court.

Badminton string gauge, the X factor

String gauge plays a crucial role in racquet performance. In general, the thinner the string, the more susceptible it is to decentering. However, the increased space between the strings makes for a better sound and more spin. This translates into a better playing experience. It's important to note that the choice of string doesn't have a huge impact on power, which essentially depends on the string tension and not on the type of string.

We offer a range of three strings in different gauges to meet the needs of all badminton players. The thickest strings, 0.80 mm, are supplied by default on certain racquets. These strings offer particularly high strength while providing a satisfying feel. If you're an experienced player, the thinner I Feel 70 string offers more strength and more feel. The I Feel 68 string is the ideal compromise between feel and strength. Finally, the slimmer I Feel 66 offers a higher level of control and greater precision.

The pictograms on string boxes can help you choose your string according to what you're looking for: power (red), sound (orange), feel (green) or strength (blue).

Harmony between arm speed and string tension: an essential balance

Unlike tennis, where less tension means more power, in badminton it depends on arm speed. The string should return at the same speed as the arm for smooth play. If the string is too loose or too tight in relation to the player's arm speed, this can disrupt performance. For optimum performance, string tension and racquet head speed at the moment of impact must be in harmony.

Professional badminton players never go below 13 kilos of tension, because they have very high arm speeds. For amateur players, tension generally varies between 8 and 10 kilos. The higher your arm speed, the more string tension you need. A higher tension offers better control and greater power, provided that the arm is coordinated with the racquet string tension.

By taking into account how often you play, the speed of your arm and the feel you're looking for, you'll be able to choose the right string. Babolat strings are available in different gauges, with I Feel 70 for strength and feel, I Feel 66 for control and precision, and I Feel 68 for a balance between precision and durability.
